The same things apply to Internet marketing.  When it comes to converting traffic to leads, some incentives work great for one niche or demographic, but won't work for another...  just like some baits and lures are better for some fish than others. 2.)  If you want to catch a specific fish you need to fish the right lakes, rivers and streams.  As a fisherman, whether I'm looking for a meal or for the trophy fish that's going to win a tournament, I need to know where to go to catch the specific species of fish needed.  One location might be great for larger volumes of eating size fish while another will be better for one or two large fish that will give me enough weight to cash in and win a contest. Again, the same thing applies to Internet marketing.  Some marketing resources (like free safe lists and traffic exchanges) might be better for generating larger volumes of leads that will produce small ticket sales while other resources (social networks & the social media) might be better for finding people who have the resources to buy a larger ticket product, service or program. There is one key element that we all need to be successful in business... PEOPLE!  Without people there is no one to buy our products and/or services, nor is there anyone to join our business opportunities. As a smart business owner and marketer YOU need to know how to find the people you are looking for using the resources that will bring you into direct contact with the people that are best matched to your product, service or opportunity. 3.)  Patience, persistence and focus are vital to hooking and landing your catch.  As a small boy, if I had a dollar for every time my dad told me "keep an eye on your bobber", I'd already be retired... LOL!  Talk about a lesson in focus and persistence...   As I grew older though,  I realized just how important focus was when it came to catching fish.  I learned a valuable lesson in patience and persistence one June evening as my dad and I fished our last tournament together before I left for the Army.  It was a three hour tournament on a Monday night.  We started off slow with only one legal fish.  Fortunately, it was a larger fish so the weight would help us greatly if we could add a couple more.  With only 20 minutes remaining in the tournament, we hit one last "honey hole" ( a fishing spot known for it's ability to produce fish.)  It just so happened, that night, that the lake we were fishing was the lake we lived on, so we knew this body of water very well... and it worked to our advantage. The very second the boat came to rest, we grabbed our poles, tied on the right lures for that particular spot and went to work.  As the clock ticked away, we knew that we either needed four fish to reach our limit of five or a couple of bigger fish.  This was a tall order considering our time restriction, but we didn't focus on the negative, we believed, and we took action! On my first cast I caught a small largemouth bass just under the legal size limit.  A good sign, but useless to us at that time.  I quickly tossed that fish (and my line)  back in the water.  Before my bait could reach the bottom of the lake, I hooked another fish.  Fortunately the second fish "bumped" (meaning it was a legal length), so I put it in the box (live well) and made another cast.  Again, BOOM, another fish... this one a little nicer than the last.  Long story short... in five casts, we caught the rest of the fish needed, bringing us to our five fish limit with five minutes to spare.  While we weren't sure it was enough to win, we were both very confident that we would be in the money.  Victory was ours that night!  It turned out that most others experienced the same difficulty in finding fish, as we had, early in the tournament.  Ironically, several of the anglers had given up, packed up, and left early as they hadn't caught any fish to weigh in. All of those variables factored into our success that night, and because WE DIDN'T QUIT, we walked with away with the first place prize money plus the bonus purse for biggest fish (known in tournament circles as "Big Bass!")
